One of my favourite things about February in Winnipeg is that it’s time for the annual Dine About Winnipeg event. More than 25 restaurants are participating this year for a 10-day stretch of serving three-course meals for a fixed price. Since it falls right around the same time as Mr Science’s birthday, it makes for an excellent birthday treat. This year, we visited Amici for the first time.
We weren’t disappointed! It was a wonderful (and very filling) meal.

Quail stuffed with Italian sausage, wrapped in smoked bacon, and served with mashed potatoes, beets, carrots, broccoli, and sugar snap peas.
Unfortunately, I was enjoying the food too much to remember to take photographs. The only reason you have the above (dark, slightly out-of-focus) photograph to enjoy is because Mr Science commented on my lack of Instagramming the evening, which reminded me to take a picture (apparently I’m on social media a lot? :)).
The other wonderful meal that I enjoyed (and was this time treated to myself!) was with the mother dear, godmother dear, and honorary godmother dear. We visited Red River College’s Jane’s Restaurant for the first time, which is set in the beautiful old Union Bank. The decor is gorgeous and the food, cooked by the culinary arts students at the College, is delicious.

Bacon-wrapped Manitoba pork tenderloin on butternut squash puree, red wine sauce, spiced sea scallop, and barley.
Again, the only reason you have photographs of these is because the mother dear whipped out her camera and started taking pictures.
The mother dear is clearly more hip than I am.

Amici and Jane’s: definitely both worth a visit.
